Youth Group

"How's your youth ministry going?"
"We don't have any youth ministry."
"I thought you had a handful of grade 8 people that got together after the service on a Sunday."
"Yeah we do, but we don't have anything on a Friday night."

Some people think a Friday night youth group is the main game  and unless you have a group then your not doing real youth ministry.

I would suggest that it doesn't matter what day, time, where or the amount of young people you have.

As long as you are making disciples then be encouraged you are doing the right thing.

Look around you, who has God given you to disciple, there's your youth group.

What would be the number one attribute you look for in a leader?

There is always a temptation to put gifting first.
We slide into practicalities, we want someone who is going to get the job done.
Someone we don't have to put too much time and energy into.
We think someone with the right gifts will make our ministry grow and attract people.

It seems that the Bible puts more emphasis on character.

When it comes to choosing a king God doesn't look at the things we look at.
“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance of his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

In the lists from 1 Timothy 3:2-7 and Titus, the only time it mentions ability based requirements, that of teaching is in Titus 1:9; 1 Tim 3:2, all other qualifications are character qualities.
